WAAM
Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is an advanced manufacturing process that belongs to the broader category of additive manufacturing (AM), commonly known as 3D Printing. It utilizes an electric arc as the heat source to melt metal wire, which is deposited layer by layer to build up a three-dimensional object.
At Nucleus-AM WAAM process generally works:
Preparation:
The process begins with the creation of a digital 3D model of the desired object using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Layering:
The WAAM machine then uses this digital model to guide the deposition of metal wire onto a substrate or previous layers. The wire is fed into a welding torch where an electric arc is generated between the wire and the substrate. This arc melts the wire, which is then deposited onto the substrate.
Layer-by-Layer Build-Up:
The deposition process is repeated layer by layer, with each layer fusing to the previous one, gradually building up the final object.
Post-Processing:
Once the printing is complete, the object may undergo various post-processing steps such as machining, heat treatment, or surface finishing to achieve the desired properties and surface quality.
Our Process offers several advantages over traditional manufacturing methods and other additive manufacturing techniques:
Cost-Effectiveness:
WAAM can use relatively inexpensive materials, such as metal wire, compared to some other AM techniques that require specialized powders.
Speed:
The use of wire feedstock and high deposition rates enable WAAM to produce parts relatively quickly compared to other AM methods.
Large-scale Production:
WAAM is well-suited for producing large-scale metal parts, making it particularly useful in industries like aerospace, automotive, and marine engineering.
Material Flexibility:
WAAM can work with a wide range of metal materials, including aluminum, steel, titanium, and their alloys, offering versatility in material selection for various applications.
